Beta 45: Survival Training

Your first shift now comes with training. Management still cannot guarantee your survival.

Beta 45 is available for Windows, Linux and macOS. This post brings together everything added since Beta 43: the new guided tutorial in Beta 45 and the boss health bars introduced in Beta 44.

The cover is a promotional illustration. The screenshots below are captured in-engine from Betas 44 and 45.

Learn before the horde arrives

Choose Tutorial from the main menu to enter a separate practice version of the compound. Follow objective markers and short instructions through the essentials, with practice funds and no ordinary waves interrupting the lesson.

Buy a weapon, take down three one-shot training zombies and experience a staged attack from behind so you can recognise the damage warning. A reload hint shows the right button for your keyboard or controller. Once you have reloaded, the tutorial empties your ammunition and guides you back to buy more.

Reloading is a short, button-aware hint within the lesson.

The next marker leads to a door. Open it and head into the main room to try Lost & Found twice: your first purchase gives you the Intern SMG; the second reveals the middle finger and explains why the box moves. A short camera sequence shows it vanish and reappear elsewhere.

Meet your new colleagues

The regular Middle Manager, HR and Executive appear one at a time. The camera focuses on each ability before handing control back so you can finish the encounter: the Manager strengthens nearby Employees, HR calls in recruits, and the Executive heals and summons an explosive Scapegoat.

Finish the shift. Restore the lights.

After the encounters, buy Headhunter Programme from its vending machine. The sky grows darker through the lessons, then a short sun-and-moon sequence carries the compound into deep night. Watch the electrical cabinet break and the car park lights flicker out. Follow the repair marker and bring the power back.

After the repair, the camera stays long enough to see the lights settle back on.

The lesson ends with a return to the main menu. The casino stays out of this introduction.

Until you complete the tutorial, its menu button is highlighted at the top. Starting a game first offers three choices: continue, continue and do not ask again, or go straight to the tutorial. Finish the training and its button moves to the bottom of the menu, ready whenever you want a refresher.

Also since Beta 43: boss health bars

Beta 44 made progress against the big bosses visible. Damaging a special boss reveals a red health bar above its head, including the Executive on round 7. It stays visible for three seconds after the latest damage, then fades over half a second. Another hit brings it straight back.

The bars cover the special boss variants in rounds 7, 15 and 23 and their elite appearances from round 24. They track damage and healing in solo and co-op, including the Chairman’s second life; healing does not extend the display timer. Bars face your camera, stay hidden behind walls and disappear on death. Ordinary zombies and summoned minions keep their existing appearance.

Boss health, damage and encounter balance are unchanged.
